Your solar panels will produce DC (Direct Current) electricity. This electricity will be run through an inverter to produce AC (Alternating Current) electricity and can in turn power back to the grid (Grid Tie), or alternatively you can have a system that is an "Off Grid" System that is standalone.
With a "Grid Tie" System you might be eligible for government grants. See the links below:
